Day 27 of 120

We went to The Buffet.  The Buffet that my family loves and we've visited 10,000 times over the last 14 years.  They had my favorites.  The orange chicken, the cornbread stuffing, chicken and dumplings, meatloaf, pizza, fried chicken, mashed potatoes, baked potatoes, bread with garlic butter, ribs, nachos and fettuccine alfredo.  Then there is the dessert bar. 20 different kinds of dessert at least.  I am partial to the apple cobbler with vanilla ice cream.  I love the crispy ranger cookies too.  Did I mention the orange chicken?  I so love the orange chicken.

Well, I ate none of that tonight.  Not. A. Bite.

My conflicting thoughts amazed me though.  I walked in there, not knowing exactly what I was going to do.  I knew I wasn't going to pig out but even "just holding back" would be way too many calories.  I toyed with saying "screw it" and enjoying a plate of my favorite food.  I toyed with having ONE dessert.  In the end, I chose wisely and enjoyed the food and came out very full.

I came in there very hungry, having had only eaten about 400 calories for the day.  So I had 800 to play around with. I'm sure I used all those up but that's okay!  I had a great big salad with a bunch of veggies, very little dressing.  A small bit of steak, small bit of ham, cantaloupe and honeydew.  Then for "dessert", I had a small bowl of chili with onions and cilantro with a bit of sour cream.  I seriously looked around for some more veggies that I could eat but there really wasn't ANY options there.  I was hoping for some cooked zucchini or squash but they had none.

This might seem mundane and boring to most but for me, this was a huge success.  I have no problem in the future, being able to enjoy desserts or a piece of pizza but for right now, I HAVE to stay focused.  I know myself too well that any sort of complacency will make me lose focus.  So for me to be able to navigate The Buffet and stay focused.  Major success.

  2. Good for you for sticking to the plan. I don't ever go to buffets anymore. Too much temptation for me and not good even for the family to overeat. we have always called buffets "the trough."

  3. I can't do buffets. I do not have sufficient self-control in the face of all those choices. I did test it late last year at a Chinese Buffet....and went a bit overboard on the dumplings, though I did supremely better than ever before. Mostly veggies and soup, no rice or noodles, no dessert at all, nothing fried. But it was still a lot more than I should have...

Not to mention the crazy sodium....

So, congrats for not caving to the worst.

But for me, buffets are simply a no-no. I never know which time I'd go totally nuts..and it's always a possibility. Hubby never eats much at buffets, so it's not worth it for me to test my inner strength. :)

    Happy Sunday!
