Day 22 of 120

I woke up really, really hungry today. I ate breakfast early and ate my yogurt early too.  Then I ate a big lunch.  Early.  Usually I spread my lunch out from like 1 - 3. I think I ate it all by 12:30.  It was all healthy and stuck to the plan, I just ate it early.

Funny, I didn't feel like binging or anything but I knew I HAD to eat.  Odd feeling.  I know that yesterday I way overestimated my calories, I am quite sure that I came in way under 1000 but I hate for people to think I'm starving myself so I tend to round up. Yesterday I way rounded up.  I just wasn't hungry.  So today I woke up with a headache and felt I really needed to eat. I had an apple for my afternoon snack and then 2 cups of soup for dinner and then felt really full.  So it started out odd but then came together fine by evening.  I still have this stupid headache.  Though now I don't believe it's from hunger, I ate well today. :-)

There is a new challenge at Plus Size Bloggers this month.  Record your measurements at the first of the month and the last of the month.  I have yet to take a tape measure to my body.  So just for the fun of it, I am going to do it and I'll post the measurements tomorrow and again at the end of the month.  Should be interesting...  Join up! It will be fun to see how you do!

Day 21 of 120

I had to fight for that number.  I've been at the same 220 for the whole week and then yesterday and today, this number came up. Yea!  Finally out of the 220's.

Exercise is going well. I had probably my best run/walk today. I can see progress, I am still not pushing myself to do more though and I want to.  I'm getting used to the exercise but I still don't like it.  I keep hearing from people that I'll learn to crave it and want it.  Not even close. I don't dread it like I did but I'm still far from liking it.  Who knows, maybe with time...

Plus Size Bloggers - Week 4

I think we're in week 4? I had to review the rules just to make sure.  I like online challenges.  I like "having" to post my weight and report to someone.  Sounds silly but it works for me. I feel obligated and accountable.  I also am not generally a quitter. So when I start something, I like to finish it, even if I am not successful. That being said, I have in the past quit at some of the Plus Size Blogger challenges.  Oops!  Well, no more. I started and won't quit.

I enjoy seeing the progress of others as well.  There aren't too many in this challenge but I believe they will be doing it monthly.  I'm not sure.  If you're interested in checking it out, it might be a good motivation for you to succeed!  They'll be starting another one in March.

Day 20 of 120

You want to know what I do every Saturday night??

Stay up way too late watching TV. I only watch a few shows and I watch them online. No time to actually watch the regular TV.  I don't even know what nights they are on. I watched an episode of Parenthood, No Ordinary Family and House.  Very random, huh.  I get to multitask while doing it too, I look through recipe magazines, cookbooks and attempt to organize the ever growing mound of papers, mail and bills that show up on my desk. Plus plan next weeks menu, make grocery lists and cut coupons.  Yup, just a typical Saturday night. Off to bed.

Day 19 of 120

This is my new favorite dressing.  Paula Deen Peach Dressing.

It's only 15 calories for 2 tablespoons.  Amazing that it's from Paula Deen!  Interestingly, it's not even labeled as a light dressing. I was SHOCKED when I saw the stats.

Here's the funny part, it just showed up in my refrigerator.  Seriously. I don't remember buying it. I might have won it in a giveaway, I just don't remember. I found it, it had about 1/2 cup missing out of it so clearly I had used it. Hubs and brother claim they didn't put it there. Scary that I wouldn't remember it.  Even more scary that I found something in my frig and used it!  I'm sure I am just getting old and forgot.

Anyways, it's amazing.  I looked for it at our local grocery store. It wasn't there. I looked online, and didn't see it.  I had a hard time finding it. I finally found it at Walmart, not the first Walmart by us, but another one. So I hope you are able to find it, it's delicious!

Day 18 of 120

I've had a headache all day. I don't get too many headaches anymore.  I've always had headaches, on a weekly basis. I wonder if staying hydrated and eating healthier has anything to do with it?  I would imagine so.  In anycase, I have a headache today, not super bad, but annoying just the same.

Sorry, nothing more interesting to say.  I'm eating on track, exercise is going well. Not super, but good.  I was hoping to be able to kick it up a notch rather than "just doing enough".  It's still been regular, which is good.  Eating is going well. Eating healthy and low calorie gets easier when you have a plan and stick with it.  I love to snack so I basically break up my breakfast, lunch and dinner so that I get to snack throughout the day. It works for me!!

You gotta check out this link!  She is one of my favorite people!  She has a new belly dancing exercise video and she recorded herself!!  Not only does she do super awesome but her hubby joins in too.  Gotta say, it looks like a ton of fun and I so would love to try it!  Not sure if I would have the guts to record myself, I have a LOT more belly to jiggle!  Veronica, you rock!

Day 16 of 120

Smoothies have been the latest hit around the house this week.  I've never made smoothies before. I've made malts and shakes with ice cream but nothing remotely healthy.  I just bought a decent food processor/blender about a month ago too.

I just used lowfat vanilla yogurt, strawberries, blueberries, blackberries and banana and ice.  The kids love them.  It's been dessert the last 3 nights.  Spent a fortune on fresh fruit but it's been fun.  I'm going to Costco and getting a huge bag of frozen fruit.  A bit easier on the budget. I also want to start adding things to healthify them even more.  Protein powder?  Flax seeds?  Not sure yet but I'll figure it out.  Let me know your ideas.  You're dealing with a smoothie novice here!

Day 15 of 120

This afternoon was nice.  Hubs took my 3 and 2 daycare kids out to Pump It Up.  They got to run around, act crazy and bounce.  Couple of kids weren't here today and I had 3 napping. Very quiet afternoon for a change. I could have actually accomplished something but instead just read and actually had time to comment on some blogs.  That doesn't happen much on the weekdays!

Tons of snow out there again.  We got up into the 40's last week and lost a ton of it, now; it's all back.  At least it's pretty snow and not all black and gross looking.

Day 14 of 120 & Plus Size Bloggers

The scale is a finicky thing.

I swear, if it wasn't for these challenges, I would toss the thing in the basement and only bring it up like once a month. Or longer.

My scale stayed at the same weight for like 3 weeks.  1200 calories a day and the scale stops. That was just mean.  Well, it caught up a bit this week.  It's annoying to be a slave to the scale though.

So today we're at 220.2.  Interestingly, this is about 1 1/2 lbs. higher than it has been the last couple of days.  I so loved being back in the teens again.  Can't wait until I can say I'll never see the 220's again.  It will happen soon.

Day 13 of 120

Look what came in the mail yesterday!  Chocolate!

Kel from Between the Lines had a giveaway from The Praim Group Chocolates and I won!  Check out their unique designs for chocolate!

So I checked out the calorie count on these big guys. One came in at 550 calories and the other at closer to 600. One milk chocoate and one dark chocolate.  My entire days worth of calories in 2 bars of chocolate.  Ya, not going to happen.

Hubs loved dark chocolate and he is a candy fiend so he took care of that one. The other one I separated into squares and the kids at it over 2 days.

Preparing to spend the day hibernating tomorrow.  14 inches of snow, headed our way any minute.

Day 12 of 120

We went to the movies tonight.  8 of us all together.  3 adults and 5 kids.  Hubs and the 5 kids went to see Tron.  My friend and I were hoping for a chick flick but ended up seeing Unstoppable.  Definately not a chick flick but entertaining.  It was fast moving but predictable.  It helped that the 2 lead men were very nice to look at.  Denzel Washington just doesn't age does he!  Still, it was nice to spend the evening not attached to the computer or with my nose in a kids' school book.

I meant to come home and have a snack. I am a bit hungry.  I sorta have been all day. Weird how somedays I have no problem and other days I'm hungrier.  Nothing here to tempt me, just slightly annoying that you eat, and still feel hungry.  I figure I spent way, way too much time in my life full.  I remember eating at a buffet for dinner and going to bed 5 hours later, still completely full, unable to eat another bite, regretting having eaten so much food.  I'd so rather have this feeling than that.  Off to bed. No need for a snack.

Day 11 of 120

Ok, here's some more interesting information I found in a magazine.  I know that there are studies done every 10 minutes and researchers change their minds about things every other day but I still find it interesting.

This is about Calcium:

A British Journal of Nutrition study found that overweight women who took 1200 mg of calcium a day lost 13 lbs more in 15 weeks than those who got a placebo.  The researchers speculate that calcium makes you feel full, so that you don't overeat.

Then it goes on to say that they recommend 1000 mg of calcium a day, split into 2 doses as your body can't absorb more than 500 mg. at a time.  I take my One a Day Womens, in the morning and then a Calcium with Vitamin D at night.  I'm not trying to plug vitamins, I just thought it was interesting.

Incidentally, these are the only vitamin supplements that I take. I believe that a balanced diet is essential and is more important, as God didn't create the Multivitamin pill. I have only been taking vitamins regularly for the last 2 years and I have to say, despite having 3 kids, plus 10,000 daycare kids, I have been the healthiest the last 2 years than I ever have. Healthiest as far as colds and flu's.  I've barley had the sniffles this year and last year just had a very minor cold, at the most.  Whether this is due to the vitamins or not, who knows.

Day 10 of 120

I have no idea what I ate today.  I just wanted to post anyways as I am committing to posting daily.  Even if it is a bunch of nonsense.

Well, breakfast started out fine.  Then bad news came and the rest of the day was a blur.  Went to my religious meeting and put on a happy face but there was a knot in my stomach the whole time. It's nothing that I can talk about on the blog. This is about weight loss, not my personal problems.  I barely ate. I did drink plenty but I just had a few bites of food.  I'm still not hungry.  The knot just won't go away.

Day 9 of 120

This is an excerpt from Fitness Magazine/February 2011

Next time you're staring at the pastry case, willing yourself not to order a piece of cake, make a fist.

A new study finds that when your self-control is tested, tightening your muscles can nudge you toward the healthier option.  "People often tense their muscles when exerting willpower, so doing so in the face of temptation helps them resist the indulgence," says study author Aparna Labroo, Ph.D., associate professor of marketing at the University of Chicago.  It doesn't matter which muscle you use, but timing is key.  Wait for the moment you have to make a decision, or it's not as effective.

I don't always believe the "studies" they do but I found this interesting.  I figure it can't hurt!!

Day 8 of 120

I had a whole post thought out but then never wrote it.  I often spend Monday nights reading with the kids.  Hubs works so it's a good evening to get ahead in school.  So we just read a few chapters of a literature book, The Sign of the Beaver. Luckily it's one that we can all read together. Then we did some bible study and the kids are off to bed. I'm so ready for bed too.

Calories came in really low. I ate a late lunch and was super hungry when I ate it.  I was still hungry and ate a big banana and that surprisingly really filled me up. Dinner was awesome, I meant to have another portion or at least a snack of some sort but I just haven't been hungry.  So I guess I'm done.

Day 7 of 120

We didn't end up going out to eat.  Whew!  Somewhat of a relief to me. I didn't have to pay a lot of money for something that I probably would enjoy better at home.  Considering how much I used to LOVE eating out, that is something for me to be relieved by not going out!

We left the assembly and no one was hungry, we just went home and the kids ended up just snacking on stuff and we never went out.  Also good as I ate a slightly bigger lunch than planned so I was able to eat a very small dinner.

Day 6 of 120

I got to wear one of my favorite skirts again!  Woo hoo!  When I got down in weight, I obviously had to buy a bunch of new clothes. One of my favorites was this black and white skirt.  Usually everything I wear is elastic waist.  That way it can give 20 lbs. plus or minus.  Well, this skirt wasn't an elastic waist, it has a little give in the back but it basically fits, or it doesn't fit.  Well, when I got back in the 240's, It didn't fit. When I was in the 230's. It didn't fit.  Well people, it fit today!

We went to a religious assembly today and it was my goal for the last couple of months, to wear this skirt. And I did. It felt great.  The assembly goes on tomorrow as well and I'm planning to wear another skirt that used to be a wee bit too tight.  By the way, the assembly is awesome and incredibly spiritually uplifting!  There really are so many comparisons for the temptations for losing weight and the temptations of the world.  Both have the potential to be very powerful and life altering if you succumb to them.

Tonight I let the family bring home pizza and I made my own food.  Tomorrow night we're planning to go out to dinner with some friends.  I will probably let them decide where to go and I am SOOOO hoping that they don't want to go to the buffet.  I'd love a nice simple restaurant where I can order a nice salad!  We don't go out to eat too often anymore so the kids are excited. Me, I'm looking forward to the company more than the food.

Day 5 of 120

Funny, when you go without real sugar for so long, grapes taste like one of the sweetest most wonderful things in the world. We are a spoiled bunch if we think that we need chocolate or sweet desserts to satisfy our sweet tooth.  Nature is full of naturally sweet, delicious things that we take for granted.  I'll pass on the brownies and cupcakes. Give me some grapes and a Fuji apple instead!

Day 4 of 120

Dehydrated?

Seriously, that is how I feel. How is that possible? I drink at LEAST 8 - 16 oz. waters a day. Most days more.  I drink throughout the day from 6:30 until about 6:30 so it's not all at once.

Yet, my lips are red and getting chapped. My hands are dry and scaly and I'm itchy like I am dry.  I know it's winter in Minnesota and it's dry here.  I wash my hands more than anyone in the world with all the food handling and diapers changed.  But still. The last think I thought I'd be with all this water is dehydrated!

Ate well today.  To busy to be hungry.  The few blogs that I get to are usually while bottle feeding a baby at my desk.  Multitasking & typing one handed. I'm getting good at it!  :-)

Day 3 of 120

Eating is way on track, drinking is good. I always seem to be drinking water. Even though we are on a diet plan, I still count calories. I'm used to it.  I also round up on everything.  Breakfast and snack came closer to like 160 - 165 calories a piece.  Nightime snack was part of dinner and it was probably less than 150. I like to round up in case I miss something or make an error.  I'm pretty good at weighing and measuring so I'm pretty confident in my totals.

The week seems long but the time is short. The piles of stuff on my desk just builds. I got my tax prep finished so YEA! One less thing to stress over.  I'm the ultimate procrastinator when it comes to that. A lot of paperwork with the childcare business, a lot of receipts to go through and I leave it all to the end.  Every time.  Now it's done so onto the miscellaneous piles of junk that need to be organized and put away.

Day 1 of 120

So I am replacing my eats section with generic breakfast, lunch and dinner titles.  Unless we follow the food plan to a T, Allan doesn't want to know about it. Now, don't get me wrong, I AM following it. I just don't know if each and every one of my food swaps is TECHNICALLY approved.  Like I would rather have a whole wheat tortilla than an english muffin.  I often will put my salad ON a tortilla with the fruit, rather than separate. I might have vegetable soup, rather than a salad, still the same calories, still similar veggies, just a different form.  I'm tracking calories, keeping a balance of all food groups and staying well within guidelines.  Allan just doesn't want to know the particulars. I get it. He's the man of the challenge.  He's right.  Listen to him, not me. I'm just letting you all know how it's going here for the next several months.

I still will be sharing recipes on my other blog.  I am a month or so behind as I have been cooking up a storm and not posting recipes everyday.  (I'm kinda saving up for April which will be a super busy month and I won't be cooking new things too much, more on that later).  So if you want to see what I am eating or what I have eaten, check out that blog.  Some of the things I don't eat a lot of. Most of the desserts posted I don't eat.  I make them and then giveaway.  I've actually told the family that I am not making desserts over this challenge as I get myself into trouble when I do.  (recent example; Amaretto Banana Bread).  So any desserts posted on the other blog have already been eaten and are long gone.

T Minus 1 for Phase 5/Plus Size Bloggers

So Phase 4 got nixed and we're jumping straight on to Phase 5. Call it what you will, it's 1200 calories, water galore and regular exercise.  I can do that.  Allan's offering free advice, a free weight loss plan and free council and support.  Can't argue with that.  Now he's offering prizes. Awesome prizes.  Like losing a ton of weight isn't prize enough.  Very cool, indeed.

I have also entered Plus Size Bloggers challenge to lose 10 lbs in a month.  According to Allans prediction, this should be a snap.  Sadly, thus far I haven't lived up to his or my expectations but I'm going to give it my all this month and for many more.  Until long after the challenges are over and I've reached my goal.

So here is the official Weigh In for both challenges. I seriously can't believe my evil scale.   I'd love to blame it on something but there just is nothing to blame.  Maybe the scale is on strike?  Ya, that must be it.

No, I won't be getting the award for the prettiest toes, that's for sure.  But, really? Does anyone have pretty toes?  Seriously though, that number ticked me off.  I've been hovering in the 227's all week, getting lower and lower. I thought for SURE I'd hit 226 today.  Grrr.

Giveaway Winner - Saturday, February 6

So I had a $75 CSN Giveaway on my other blog. I am happy to say that my weight loss buddy and fellow Minnesotan won!  Julie from The Going To Be New Me now has $75 to shop online at CSN. Yea! I can't wait to see what she picks!

We spent the whole day out.  Amongst other things, we took my dad to the Omni Theater at The MN Science Museum.  We're members so it's free.  We went to see Sea Monsters.  The kids had fun showing grandpa around the museum.

We dropped Grandpa off at home and then wanted to go out to dinner.  The kids wanted to go to Burger King.  They apparently wanted the playland.  It's been quite awhile since they had been there so we agreed.  As we were driving by the house, I asked to be dropped off at home so I could eat normal food.  I wasn't in the mood for a dry, overpriced grilled chicken sandwich.  I usually toss the bottom bun and eat it that way. I really don't enjoy it.  So I ate leftover taco casserole, full of healthy protein and veggies and homemade whole wheat chips. I felt much better and got to eat in silence rather than amongst 1000 kids.

Stupid Cake - Friday, February 4

I had pretty much the same salad as yesterday, lower calorie dressing but added ham. I love a good salad!

Dinner was excellent!  A healthy taco casserole that I paired with homemade whole wheat tortilla chips.  I went over on calories a bit as I was too hungry before dinner and had a vitatop.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Ok, so I wrote that after dinner, not thinking that I was going to eat anymore. I would have been at 1310 calories.  Then what did I do?  I was photographing some amaretto banana bread cake I made and decided to have a piece.  No thought about calories or whether I should or should not have it. No emotion. I just did it. Stupid.  I should have at least made the amaretto icing first and had a REALLY good piece!  The comical thing is, I even weighed it. I haven't figured out the calories on the whole cake yet, I'll do that tomorrow so I'll update the calorie amount tomorrow correctly, I estimate about 300 tops though.  Still stupid.
Reading, Thursday, February 3
I spent the entire evening reading with the kids. History with the older 2, all about Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt.  Then literature with my oldest, a story kinda like Les Miserable. Then a history test with my 3rd grader, the semester test, about the Renaissance Period and the Spanish and Portuguese explorers finding the Americas. He did well, he got Balboa and Magellan mixed up.  I don't think it will affect his future that he forgot who discovered the Pacific Ocean. Then a bit of bible reading to finish the night off. It was a good night.  But I'm ready for my bed.
Pineapple - Wednesday, February 2
So I buy the big #10 cans of pineapple chunks at Costco. Especially in the winter when fresh fruit is so expensive. I eat it occasionally. What I love though is fresh pineapple.  I eat those a LOT in the summer!  SO GOOD!  Well, this time I bought some individual cans of Tropical Gold Pineapple. Same brand, Dole. I didn't think they would be much different.  Holy cow is this GOOD pineapple! It puts the regular canned pineapple to shame! It is still in 100% juice and no sugar added.  It tastes so much more like real pineapple and it was super sweet.  The 2 year olds didn't appreciate it at all, they didn't care. I'm totally keeping these cans for myself.  :-)  I ate a lot more fruit than I normally do today!
